About the
Deshka River:
The Deshka has
been producing some really nice fish the last several years. Average
is 20-25lbs and 30lbs plus is not uncommon. The larger fish (40-50lb)
have a tendency to run early, starting in late May, if water levels
are good. I have personally caught 35+lb. King's as early as May 5th.
This was based on an early spring and good water levels. The bulk
of the fish run from about May 25- June 20. This can be a very busy
time on the Deshka and sometimes a crowd of boats gather at the mouth
to intercept these much sought after fish. If the weather turns really
warm in June,it can increase the temperature of the water. This makes
the fish very sluggish making for best fishing in the early morning
or late evening. The
river is open to fishing from 0600 to 2300 hours. Fish and Game impose
these times to allow for escapement goals otherwise a lot of fish
would be caught at night or sort of, as we nearly have 23 hours of
daylight in June. We currently have a very hefty snow load in Alaska's
south central region and the water levels should be very good for
fishing early May. The ice has to leave the rivers of course and one
never knows when that will be until winter looses it's grip on Alaska.
All in all it does feel that the season is on a normal track. We are
hitting 40°ƒ in the mid days around the house and things
should start melting fast. So come on let's plan to go fishing and
catch some big ones.

About Lake
Creek on the Yetna
This is a very exciting King fishing destination. The creek is located
1.3 hours boat trip ride up the Yetna River from our departure point.
This fishery is best experienced in an over night camping package
we offer.
We leave the
landing area around 2 pm for a comfortable ride up the scenic Yetna
River, arriving at Lake Creek about 3:30 pm. We off load the boat
at our camping site and set up tents, bedding and have an early
dinner. We then go out to some of our favorite spots on the creek
for some fishing action. This is a 0600-2300 hr fishing restriction. We
can fish until 11 pm or earlier if all aboard have caught one .
We return to camp for some sleep, making ready for a 5:15 am wake
up and a brief breakfast as the action starts again at 6 am. This
is usually a very hot time to lay into some good fishing and can
be non-stop for hours. Undisturbed, the fish lay up in the clear
water to clean out their gills before preceding up the creek. They
can be stacked up in the clear waters like cords of wood! We go
back to camp for some food and a rest before loading up to go back
to the landing around 2 pm. Again arriving at the landing about
3:30 pm. This is a trip that allows you to keep 2 salmon, one per
day, two in possession. You may catch and release as many as you
want, but once you put the fish in the boat your day is done. This
is a very scenic trip and the views of Denali (Mt. McKinley) are
breathtaking. This is a GREAT trip, but may not be for all, as the
camping is in the wild and considered "rustic".The fishing
is usually good after June 5 - 30.
